The Essex Symphony Orchestra (UK) gives regular concerts in Essex, England (UK) with an interesting variety of programmes and high quality soloists. Our repertoire includes classical, romantic and modern music and we accompany choral works. Ambitious Programmes and Talented Young Soloists in 2007/2008
Our 2007/2008 season of programmes was one of the most ambitious and varied we have attempted in our 59 year history. The works ranged across the full spectrum of musical styles (from a classical symphony by Haydn, and a baroque oboe concerto, to the modern idioms of Gershwin and Bernstein).
Harriet Mackenzie gave a stunning performance of the Barber Violin Concerto to a full house in our 'All American' concert on the 1st March.
On the 3rd of May we accompanied choirs in the EMA's Combined Choirs Annual Festival, as we have done for many years. This year the performance was in Chelmsford Cathedral, not Thaxted Church as it has been for many years. We had our own spot in this EMA concert, accompanying oboist, Tamas Balla who won sponsorship by being the highest placed woodwind (and runner up overall) in the Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition.
Victoria Simonsen played the Saint Saëns 'Cello Concerto No. 1. in the last concert of our 2007/2008 season on June 28th 2008. It was a superb performance and was enthusiastically applauded by our audience.
